Two contingents of darts players from abroad are expected for the 2009 Guyana Mashramani Classic which will be held from February 20-22.

According to Norman Madhoo St. Lucia will be represented by a 12-member team which will be headed by Lionel Theopholous while Barbados will be sending a six-man team that includes former two-time Caribbean darts champion Anthony Forde and Sheldon Braithwaite.

Forde also represented the region at the world darts tournament in England. Guyana’s challenge will be led by the evergreen  Madhoo and the find of 2008, Sudesh Fitzgerald, who also represented the region at last year’s World Darts Championships.

According to Madhoo correspondence was sent to the Trinidad and Tobago Darts Association who has not responded.

The tournament, which has at stake some $440,000 (US$2,200) in prize money overall will be played in seven categories. On Friday, the Blind Draw and the Open Doubles tournaments will be contested while the following day, the mixed doubles tournament which carries a first prize of US$200 will be contested. Later on Saturday,  a four-member team 1001 tournament which carries a first prize of US$300 with the stipulation that at least one female must be on the team will be contested while on Sunday, the Ladies Singles 501 will get underway followed by the Open Doubles 501.

The final event will be the men’s singles 501 which has the highest prize money of US$200 for the winner.
