GCB sends congratulatory message to Sarwan

The Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) has dispatched a message congratulating Ramnaresh Sarwan for his magnificent double century in the just-concluded fourth Digicel test match against England which ended in a draw.

Sarwan made a topscore of 291 falling just nine runs short of becoming the first Guyanese batsman to score 300 runs in a test innings.

Following is the text of the message.

“Heartiest congratulations on the achievement of yet another milestone in your glittering career, which once again kept the Golden Arrowhead fluttering proudly.

Your performance in the first innings of the Fourth Test against England demonstrates to us what we always knew:  Ramnaresh Sarwan commands a place among the great batsmen of today.

All Guyana cheered you along the way during that fantastic innings, and you must have heard from Kensington the collective groan of the Guyanese cricketing public when you fell so agonizingly close to the three hundred mark.

All of us, though, are confident that you have the skills and the talent to take you across that threshold and beyond sometime in the near future.

The GCB hopes that you would maintain the interest in the game and your passion for test centuries, and that you will continue to be an inspiration to young Guyanese.”
