GCA cricket season commences today

The 2009 Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) first and second division cricket competition gets underway today with matches around Georgetown.
In the first division, teams will battle for supremacy in the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph (GT&T)/Cellink Plus sponsored competition where Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) and Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC) are joint champions.

In first round action slated for today and tomorrow, Everest Cricket Club will host MSC at Everest, Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) will go up against Transport Sports Club (TSC), while the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) and GNIC will clash at MSC.
In the second division competition which is sponsored by Cummings Electrical Contractors and P&P Insurance and is being played in memory of Raymond Panday, the late brother of former GCA president Bishwa Panday, GDF are the defending champions.

Matches in this competition will see MSC taking on Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) at GCC, TSC and GNIC doing battle at GNIC, Ghandi Youth Organization (GYO) and Ace Warriors battling at GYO and Ministry of Culture and DCC going head to head at Police.

All matches will commence at 0930hrs on both playing days for the first division while second division action will commence from 1130hrs each day.
