GCB/Gafoors 2020 semifinals set for tomorrow

The semifinals of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB)/Gafoors sponsored nationwide 20/20 first division cricket competition will be contested tomorrow, with both matches commencing simultaneously at 13:00hrs.

At the Rose Hall Community Centre ground in Canje, Berbice, Demerara zone champions Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) will oppose Berbice zone winners Rose Hall Town Windies Sports Bar (RHTWSB), while at the Georgetown Cricket Club, Lusignan will face Central Essequibo.

With the absence of national captain Travis Dowlin, Christopher Barnwell and Derwin Christian, RHYTWSB should be highly favoured to get past the Queenstown-based DCC team, who will still have the services of Dennis Squires, Trevon Griffith, Denver Greaves and national fast bowler Trevon Garraway.

On the other hand, RHTWSB will be missing the services of brothers Esaun and Royston Crandon and Assad Fudadin, but they can depend on their Cricketer-of the- Year in wicketkeeper Delbert Hicks, Renwick Batson and Troy Matheison.

This match-up should be an exciting one and will see D. Somwaru and C. Brusche as the men in charge, with M. Singh as the standby umpire.

Not much can be said of both Central Essequibo and Lusignan, but one thing is sure, they have earned the right to meet each other, having overcome all challenges in their preliminary round matches.

N. Duguid and S. Crawford are the men in charge of this fixture, with H. Isaacs as the standby.

The finals will be played on a date to be announced.
