RHTYSC bids farewell to Burgess

The Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTYSC) and its Windies Sports Bar first division team bade  an emotional and heartfelt farewell last Sunday to long standing sponsor and honorary member  David Burgess.

Burgess who was a managing director of Courts (Guyana) Limited is returning to his homeland after eight years in Guyana.

Burgess was described as a true friend of the club.

Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster in paying tribute to  Burgess, stated that since his arrival in Guyana in 2000 he has played a major role in the club’s rapid development being a reliable sponsor, advisor, friend and  role model.

From 2000 to 2006 as managing director of Courts he ensured the company’s sponsorship of the first division team and even after he left Courts, his own business Windies Sports Bar took over the sponsorship.

Over the last three years, he invested over $1M of his own funds to sponsor the team’s annual awards ceremony, youth magazine, Christmas charity programme and cricket academy, among others.

Describing  Burgess as a beloved friend, Foster expressed gratitude to him and stated that the club would forever be thankful for his assistance, advice and guidance.

Among some of the products of his sponsorship are Assad Fudadin and Esaun and Royston Crandon, all being national cricketers.

An emotional Burgess in reply stated that he was pleasantly surprised to be honored by the club but stated that it was a privilege to be associated with the leading club in Guyana.
He noted that his support of the organization was because of its outstanding work and record of achievement. He pledged to continue his support from the United Kingdom and  challenged  club members to uphold their high standard.

He also noted  that assisting the club was easy because as a sponsor, one was able to see the money been used to benefit others.

The club presented Burgess with a special DVD that was produced for him and several other gifts as  tokens of appreciation.
