Sealy helps CCC put Barbados in a spin

CAVE HILL, Barbados, CMC – Spin bowlers Anderson Sealy, Kavesh Kantasingh, and Ryan Austin shared eight wickets between them to help the Combined Campuses & Colleges (CCC) dismiss Barbados for 235 in their first innings in the WICB regional four-day competition for the Headley/Weekes Trophy yesterday.

Openers Omar Phillips, not out on 13, and Kyle Corbin, not out on 10, then batted through 11 overs to take the CCC to 27 without loss at the close on the opening day in the 13th round match at the Three Ws Oval.

Sealy, one of nine Barbadians in the CCC line-up captured four wickets for 66 runs from 26 overs to lead the home team’s bowling, after they sent the Barbadians in to bat.

Fellow left-arm spinner Kantasingh supported with two for 42 from 13.3 overs, and off-spinner Austin collected two for 79 from 32 overs.

Schoolboy Kraigg Brathwaite, making his first-class debut at the tender age of 16 years, 123 days, was the top scorer for Barbados with 73.

West Indies batsman Ryan Hinds made 58 and added 107 for the second wicket with Brathwaite before he was dismissed just before lunch to leave the Barbadians on 119 for two.

Dwayne Smith made 23 before he succeeded in running himself out, but no other Barbados batsman passed 20.

Barbados suffered an early setback, when Kevin McClean bowled Rashidi Boucher for a duck in the first over of the day.

Hinds joined Brathwaite and they took charge before Austin had him caught just before lunch.

After the interval, things went awry for Barbados. They crashed to 205 for seven at the tea break, as Sealy worked his way through their middle order.

He bowled Kirk Edwards for 11, Smith was then run out, Brathwaite was caught behind after hitting eight fours from 171 balls in just under 3-1/2 hours, Stoute was caught behind for 13, and Patrick Browne was caught at slip for 15.

After the break, there was token resistance from the tail-enders before the innings came to a close in the final hour before the close.
