Injury keeps Bravo out of England Tests

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC – Dwayne Bravo will undergo further treatment for the ankle on which he had an operation last November and will miss West Indies’ two-Test tour of England, starting later this month.

The West Indies all-rounder has been sidelined again, following his return to international duty during the recent limited-overs matches in the Caribbean against the same opponents.

Chairman of the West Indies selection panel Clyde Butts said that the decision to leave Bravo out of the 17-member squad for the trip was taken, following consultation with the medical panel of the West Indies Cricket Board and West Indies team physio C.J. Clark.

“I think he has some medical issues with his ankle,” Butts said. “After a day’s play, he still needs a lot of treatment, and the medical panel and the physio feel he would be better off not playing in the longer version of the game at the moment.”

Butts explained that though Bravo was risked during the Twenty20 International and subsequent five One-day Internationals against England, it would have been an even bigger risk to play him in a Test.

“He may have to spend two straight days in the field [in a Test],” said Butts, and this might have been challenging for Bravo.

The all-rounder scored 122 runs at 30.50 an innings and snared eight wickets at 22.12 apiece in the ODIs.
