DCC departs for WIPA tournament

National Twenty20 club champions Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) will leave these shores today for neighbouring Trinidad and Tobago, to compete in the West Indies Players Association (WIPA) club championships.

DCC earned the right to represent Guyana in the tournament following their seven-wicket victory over Lusignan Cricket Club in the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB)/Gafoors nationwide T20 final at the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) ground last Sunday.

Intent on winning the WIPA tournament, which is an annual event, the executives of the Queenstown-based team have included the service of West Indies limited-overs player Leon Johnson and Guyana/Stanford 20/20 star Dion Ferrier.

The squad also includes Guyana/Stanford Superstar Travis Dowlin, along with his national teammates Christopher Barnwell, Derwin Christian and Trevon Garraway. With the hard-hitting Jamal Hinckson, Dennis Squires, Kevin George and former national off spinner Garvin Nedd also part of the team, DCC can be a force to reckon with in the tournament which runs from May 5 to 19.

The squad reads: Christopher Barnwell, Travis Dowlin, Derwin Christian, Dennis Squires, Kevin George, Leroy Bristol, Deon Ferrier, Denver Greaves, Trevon Garraway, Leon Johnson, Jamal Hinckson, Vishal Arjune and Andrew Lyght Jnr, Robert Adonis (manager) and Gavin Nedd (player/coach).
