Defending Champs Guyana looking sharp

for this weekend

Guyana’s riflemen warmed up for next week’s West Indies Full-bore championships with a challenging total in last weekend’s Crown Mining sponsored Postal Shoot team competition held Sunday at the Timehri rifle ranges.

The Postal competition is held among the affiliates of the West Indies Full-bore Council who compete in their respective territories and the scores are submitted before the winners are declared.

The local shooters recorded 607 points and 63 V- Bulls from a total of 630 points, shooting at 300, 500 and 600 yards in very tricky and at most times extremely difficult wind conditions.

Guyana’s six-man team comprised Mahendra Persaud (captain), Dylan Fields, Richard Fields, Ransford Goodluck, Dane Blair and Claude Duguid.

The team recorded scores of 201 points with 22 V-bulls at 300 yards, 201 points with 20 V-bulls at 500 and 205 points and 21 Vs at 600 to tally 607: 63.

Wind Coach was Assistant Commissioner of Police Paul Slowe who returned to Guyana on Sunday morning and went directly from the airport to the ranges to join the shooters.

Eight shooters were selected to train as a dry run for the Caribbean Championships, shooting 2 sighters and 10 to count at each range with the first 7 rounds from the six shooters counting towards the Crown Mining Postal.

The local shooters are expected to depart Guyana on Sunday for the twin island republic and will be joined by United States-based shooters Sigmund Douglas, John Fraser and Derick Narine.

Guyana are the defending short and long range champions but only the short range title will be up for grabs because there are only short ranges at the Tucker Valley Ranges in Trinidad.
