LONDON, England, CMC – Discarded West Indies batsman Wavell Hinds stroked a half-century on Sunday to help Derbyshire beat Northamptonshire in the Friends Provident Trophy one-day tournament.

The left-handed Hinds scored 57 as Derbyshire raised 286-9 off their allotted 50 overs before dismissing the hosts for 265 in 49.2 overs to win by 21 runs.

Playing at Northampton, Hinds added 100 for the third wicket with Australian Stuart Law who narrowly missed out on a century when he fell for 95.

Hinds hit five fours and a six in an innings lasting 64 balls while Law cracked 10 fours in 113 balls at the crease.

Mark Nelson than stroked 74 from 67 balls with eight fours but failed to find support from his comrades as Northamptonshire missed out.

Barbados and West Indies seamer Pedro Collins and former Jamaica and West Indies all-rounder Gareth Breese were also in the spotlight in losing efforts for their respective clubs.

At Hove, Collins grabbed 3-56 for Surrey with his left-arm pace as Sussex got 144 from Murray Goodwin to reach 313-7 off their 50 overs.
