Top teams, performers in knockout football awarded

Georgetown’s Knockout Kings Sunburst Camptown received their award for winning the Banks DIH sponsored Premium Beer Knockout Competition which was organized by the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) in a simple ceremony in the conference room of the Banks DIH building.

Sunburst Camptown became the knockout kings after defeating the Guyana Defence force (GDF) 1–0 in the final on March 20. Alpha United won the third place showdown against Fruta Conquerors 3–1 in a penalty shootout after being deadlocked 2–2 at the end of regulation and extra times.

Sales and Marketing Executive of Banks DIH Carlton Joao after opening congratulatory remarks towards the teams stated that since partnering with the GFA they have been pleased with the efforts of the officials and teams in developing football.

“We have been supporting football at all levels and we’re committed to football in every way,” Joao further stated.

In closing he implied that football should not only be major in the more populated area but other parts of the country and as such Banks DIH is working on projects to be implemented soon to further develop the sport in areas such as Bartica, Linden and Berbice.

Camptown were presented with the Banks Premium Beer Trophy along with the top cash prize of $300,000 while Richie Richards and Chris Camacho both of the winning team were adjudged the Best Goal Keeper and Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament respectively.

Runner-up GDF who also had the tourney’s Highest Goal Scorer Stellon David with five goals claimed the second place prize of $150,000 and the runner-up trophy.

Alpha’s and Fruta Conquerors’ club representatives Fiona Hamilton and Candia Shepherd uplifted their team’s respective awards for third and fourth place which were $75,000 and $50,000 along with trophies.

No representative from the Santos football club was present to accept the Most Disciplined team award. GDF were also not represented.
