DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, CMC – Shivnarine Chanderpaul has slipped another two places while pacer Jerome Taylor has also lost ground in the latest ICC Test rankings released yesterday.
Chanderpaul, who only earlier this month was knocked off the top of the batting rankings, is now fourth after moderate scoring in the recent two-Test series against England.
The left-hander had perhaps his leanest series in recent history, managing just 74 runs from four innings to average a mere 18.50.
Despite his meagre returns, Chanderpaul moved into second place on the all-time list of West Indian run-scorer with 8 576 runs, overtaking legendary batsman Sir Vivian Richards (8540).
He is now behind Pakistani batsman Younus Khan who leads the rankings with Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara and India’s Gautam Gambhir occupying second and third respectively.
Ramnaresh Sarwan, who scored his 15th Test century to finish with 136 runs in the recent England series, has remained unmoved in 14th spot.
Taylor, meanwhile, was also hit by his skimpy returns in the Test series and has fallen four places to 13th in the bowlers’ rankings.
The right-arm quickie, coming off an impressive series against England in the Caribbean recently, took just two wickets in the series at an average of 85.50.
There has been no change in the top four of the rankings with Sri Lankan spin wizard Muttiah Muralitharan remaining on top and South African Dale Steyn, and Australians Mitchell Johnson and Stuart Clark, occupying the other three spots.
Fiery fast bowler Fidel Edwards, who was adjudged the West Indies Man-of-the-Series for the England series, has fallen two places to 22nd after taking seven wickets in the two Tests.
England fast bowler James Anderson was the biggest mover in the rankings, jumping eight spots to seventh place after grabbing 11 wickets against the West Indies.
