Mitchell still unbeaten

After 91 race walking competitions, local champion Rudolph Mitchell still finds himself in an unbeatable zone.

Competing in the Cavalier’s Sports and Tour Club (CSTC) organized 43rd Independence Anniversary race walk event on Tuesday from the University of Guyana, Turkeyen entrance and proceeding to the Independence Arch on Brickdam, Mitchell once again finished at the top of the order.

National junior athlete Jonathan Fagundes took the runner-up position to Mitchell for the fourth consecutive time, with Richard Lewis third.

On the distaff side, Donna Ramkisson finished ahead of Merlin Massiah while Debidyal Harold won in the veteran’s category and   Franklyn Archer was the runner-up.

The top junior was Tasana Doris who won ahead of Okwesi Thornhill and Toshan Doris respectively, while Dennis Burns was the lone differently-able participant in the race.

In distributing the prizes to the various winners, Registrar of the University of Guyana  Vincent Alexander called for more involvement of young people in the sport of race walking as it keeps one healthy and fit.
The next item on the calendar for CSTC will be the Linden Independence Anniversary race walk which will be held on Sunday commencing at 6:30 am in front of the Wisroc Recreational Centre and proceeding  to the Christiansburg Sports Complex for the finish.
