Rock rocks Allicock on opening night

A thrilling bantamweight bout between national junior boxers Herlando Allicock and Clevon Rock was rolled out on the opening night of the Guyana Amateur Boxing Association’s  (GABA) Na-tional Intermediate Box Off at the National Gymnasium, Friday.

The Junior Common-wealth Silver Medalist, Rock, now fighting for the Guyana Defence Force defeated Allicock fighting under the Forgotten Youth Foundation (FYF) in a battle which ended with a unanimous decision.

GDF Owain David and FYF’s Jermain Dow contested a hard-fought feature middleweight bout where Dow was adjudged the winner, a decision which did not go down well with the spectators, while Kevis Wilson (GDF) gained a victory over gym mate Blair Haynes.

Port Kaituma’s Mark Anthony’s precise hitting forced the referee to stop the contest against his GDF opponent Alden Fraser in the light welterweight category, while Harpy Eagles’ Stefan Gouveia earned a walkover from Ricola’s Trevon George.

In other results Marvin Adejay FYF) defeated Marlon Darrell (Ric) in a featherweight match up, Rondel Singh (HE) gained a bantamweight victory over HE’s Mark Anthony, and Terrence Adams (HE) won against Dexter Wray (Ric) in the pinweight category.

In the 70-74lbs and 75-79lbs categories Akeem Daniels (HE) and Eon Jeffery (Ric) achieved victories over Romel Rowley (Ric) and Young Achievers’ Dewani Lampkin respectively.

PK’s Lizzie Marshall and Shondel Marshall both retired in their female lightweight and welterweight bouts to give gym mates Vanessa Robinson and Samanta Benjamin victories respectively.
