Austin maintains form in Barbados

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC – Off-spinner Ryan Austin, who picked up the Courtney Walsh as the top bowler in the recent WICB Regional first-class season, snared a five-wicket haul for UWI against Bristol in the Barbados Division One on Saturday.

Austin bothered the Bristol batsmen and they were only able to gather 178 all out replying to UWI’s challenging score of 317 for seven declared on day two of the three-day fixture at 3Ws Oval.

Veteran Floyd Reifer (143) and Dominican Liam Sebastien (122) had scored hundreds last weekend to set up UWI’s solid total and Austin and St Lucian Craig Emmanuel combined for eight wickets to tighten UWI’s grip on the game.

Austin claimed five for 45 off 23 overs and Emanuel picked up three for 54.

Elsewhere, international pacer Tino Best (3-18) and spinner Ryan Layne (3-26) helped Pickwick dominate BCL at Blenheim.

Replying to Pickwick’s 330 for five declared, BCL tumbled to 160 all out.

At The Brewery, former West Indies opener Sherwin Campbell took some time off from coaching the West Indies Women’s World Twenty20 squad to score a half-century for Banks against Carlton.

Replying to Carlton’s 300 for nine declared, Banks scored 210 for nine declared with Campbell stroking 73, including five fours and two sixes.

Carlton reached 88 for three in their second innings at the close.

Barbados national players Kirk Edwards and Martin Nurse smashed hundreds in other games.
