Gordon and Hyman are best junior lifters

Antoine Gordon and Derrick Hyman walked away with the best lifter awards when the Guyana Amateur Weightlifting Association (GAWA) staged its annual National Junior Weightlifting Championships on Sunday at the Uitvlugt Community Centre.

There was a total of 29 competitors in the event which marked the conclusion of the GAWA weeklong 69th anniversary celebration.

Gordon weighing 35.9 kg competing in the schoolboys under 40 kg category amassed a total of 57.7 kg from his two lifts (Snatch and Clean and Jerk), and a bodyweight coefficient of 143.19 to secure  first place and the overall title.

Second place went to Shemar Roach who weighed more than Gordon (37.5 kg) and finished with a total of 52.5 kg while third place went to Keith Bobbsemple (52.2 kg).

The winner of the schoolboys over 40 kg class was Teion Timmermon with Alistair Dookran second and Teion Wilson third.
Hyman in the junior male 56 kg class with a bodyweight of 52.6 kg totalled 142.5 kg from his two lifts, snatching 62.5 kg and in the clean and jerk 80 kg to be the winner.

Donald Sookhai came in a distant second while Kelwin Josiah was third.
Marvis Williams weighing in at 64.7 kg took the Challenge Trophy championship after he amassed a total of 182.5 kg with Ajodha Harrichand second and Roberto Tiwari third.
