Moore/Marques, Allen/Gilkes set for ‘Final Execution’

“At long last” said some ardent boxing fans when news of the S and S Promotion 36 rounds card broke yesterday. The card entitled ‘The Final Execution’ is set for June 27 at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall and features some boxers who are currently  on top of their game in their respective divisions.

Heading that list is Guyana’s world rated and WBC Caribbean Boxing Federation (CABOFE) and NABA bantamweight champion Leon ‘Hurry-up’ Moore and Guyana’s present bantamweight champion Dexter Marques, along with the young rising star Lennox ‘Too Sharp’ Allen and Leon ‘The Lion’ Gilkes.

Moore will face Marques over 12 rounds for his national title which Moore held before abandoning it, while Allen and Gilkes are down to square-off for the vacant super middleweight title of Guyana.

What is interesting about both fights is that all four fighters had earlier requested to meet each other since they claimed they had a score to settle.

Moore who is fresh off clinching a third round TKO over Mark ‘The Killer’ Murray in Linden last week told Stabroek Sport that he was just granting Marques a favour and wanted to teach the young fighter a lesson. “Well I honestly taking this fight to put a stop to all the things that he has been saying, so I will be going back for my belt. Honestly, I see this as a  very small showdown cause he no match for me really, he’s a good fighter, but not too much of a worry for me.” “I’m doing this for my fans, the Guyanese people who are always behind me so I want to give them a good fight. I don’t want to make any predictions right now, but I would have to see how my training is coming along and then I will make it known,” said Moore who is ranked at No.10 in the world by the WBC.
His record stands at 25 fights with 23 wins, 21 of which came by way of knockouts, and two losses.

Marques has used every opportunity to get his hands on Moore and only lately he said he would put his national title on the line. He also stated that to be the best in the game, you have to beat the best in the game. He has only four fights to his name, with two TKOs. Meanwhile Lennox ‘Too Sharp’ Allen has predicted he would  take Leon ‘The Lion’ Gilkes out in round four.  ”I’m going to beat him for his mouth, any time he passes four rounds, God be with him”.

Gilkes was down to face Allen before but the 24-year-old fighter, who was then training out of the USA, had sustained an injury while sparring with world-rated Jamaican Glen Johnson. This prompted Gilkes to state via the media that Allen was scared of him and every time the two were supposed to meet, something always would come up.

Allen upon returning home had told Stabroek Sport that he would fight Gilkes for free just to set the record straight that he was no match for him.
Gilkes has faced some of the best fighters in the game including Guyana’s current middleweight champion Howard Eastman when he lost by unanimous decision. Leon’s record stands at 17 fights, ten losses, four wins and three draws.

Allen who is being touted as Guyana’s next world champion only has nine fights under his belt.
Also featuring on the card is Shelly Gibson who will touch gloves with Pauline London in their four-round heavyweight clash while Debby Tyson and Sharon Warde will meet in a four-round catch weight fight and Kwesi Jones and Dwayne Briggs are set to clash  in a middleweight contest.
The fighters all inked their contracts yesterday at the office of Peter Abdool, president of the Guyana Boxing Board.
