HAMILTON, Bermuda, CMC – Retired International Cricket Council (ICC) umpire Steve Bucknor is the new president of the West Indies Cricket Umpires Association (WICUA).

Jamaican Bucknor defeated incumbent Hartley Reid by three votes at the WICUA’s 24th biennial convention in Bermuda this week.

The 63-year-old Bucknor defeated Barbadian Reid 14-11 for the top position.
The bulk of the executive, including the Trinidadian Executive vice-president Anthony Lalacksingh and the area vice-presidents, remained intact

Area 1 and 2 VPs Cecil Fletcher (Jamaica) and Clancy Mack (Antigua) were returned unopposed.
Area 4 VP Harry Mahabal (T&T), Secretary Vivian Johnson (Jamaica), and Assistant Secretary/Treasurer Norman Malcolm (Jamaica) were also returned.

The Area 3 VP Election was initially deferred as Dominica’s ICC umpire Billy Doctrove was nominated for the post but in his absence there was no confirmation that he had accepted the nomination.

Confirmation of his acceptance was confirmed on Wednesday and he stays on as Area 3 VP.
T&T’s Clyde Cumberbatch is also back as Chairman, Training and Examinations Committee.

A by-law was passed where a vote of No Confidence can be brought against the President or any other officer.
Bucknor stood in a record 128 Tests and 181 One Day Internationals plus a record five World Cup Finals before bowing out of international cricket in March of this year following the Windies’ back-to-back ODIs against England at Kensington Oval.
In 2005, Bucknor became the first umpire to stand in 100 Test matches.
