The Victory Royals and Wismar Pistons are the latest teams to record victories when second round action in the Pioneer Construction-sponsored Linden Amateur Basketball Association (LABA) first-division tournament continued at the Mackenzie Sports Club hardcourt.

In the opening game of a double-header, the Royals handed the Glands Trucking Service Bulls their ninth loss of the tournament, beating them  65-49.

The Royals, who improved their record to seven wins and two losses, led 34-31 at half-time before finding a new gear in the second half to come away with the ‘W’.

Alwyn Rodney led all scorers with 16 points while Dwayne ‘Brown Sugar’ Roberts had 15.

Chris Williams was the other prime scorer with 12 points.

Only Terrence James touched double figures for the Bulls, netting 14 points.

A game-high 23 points from Trevor Profit, helped the Wismar Pistons bounce back from their shocking defeat to the Bulls last weekend when they put down Amelia’s Ward Ballers 58-49.

The Ballers, considered the minnows in the tournament, held a one-point lead at the end of the first half (29-28) but the Pistons, who are also Guyana’s National Club Champions, used their experience to come back and clinch the victory.

Apart from Profit, Wendell Warrick had 12 points.
For the Ballers, Gavin Fingal shot 15 points.

The tournament will continue this evening with the Amelia’s Ward Jets facing the Bulls while Pistons will meet Alleyene’s Retrieve Raiders.
