Ames misses cut at St Jude Classic

MEMPHIS, Tennessee, CMC – Trinidad and Tobago’s international golfer Stephen Ames who shot a second-round even-par 70 yesterday missed the cut at the St Jude Classic.

After a four-over 74 on Thursday Ames had an improved showing in round two but his halfway total of four-over 144 was not enough for him to avoid the cut for the third time in six appearances here. Ames had also missed the cut here in 1998, his first full year on the PGA Tour, and again in 2002.

He started on the back nine and struggled with a double-bogey at the 14th, and bogeys at the 10th and 18th. Ames improved later in the day with birdies at the first, fourth and seventh but exits the US$6 million event as American Brian Gay enters round three today with a two-stroke lead.
