Alpha and Camptown drain opponents

Alpha ‘The Hammer’ United and Sunburst Camptown claimed smashing victories over their opponents in the latest contested match-ups of the Georgetown Football Association’s (GFA) Cellink Plus Premier League competition at the Tucville Playfield on Sunday.

Camptown got the upper hand against Georgetown Football Club (GFC) by two goals to nil in the curtain raiser of the double header while Alpha completely controlled the battle against homeboys Fruta Conquerors who lost 1 – 3.

Both GFC and Camptown played matching football in the first half, blocking shots and breaking down plays with resolute defending but still building up sturdy plays which got both teams a few shots on goal.

Neither team was able to score in the first half but Camptown then found an opening in the 70th minute from on top of the 18-yard box when Orlando Gilgeous found the back of the net to give his team the lead.

On the stroke of full-time Camptown’s Kwame La Fleur recorded his team’s second goal.
In the feature match-up, the three-time defending champions, Alpha United, opened up with their conventional attacking style which got them the lead in the 24th minute, compliments of a Dwight Peters’ strike.

With carpet-like passing from the superior squad, numerous balls found skipper Shawn ‘Fatso’ Bishop who sank their opponent’s hopes with a double.
Bishop scored in the 43rd minute putting the home side down by two goals going into half-time.

After half-time, Lester Peters found an opening for Fruta and was able to score in the 67th minute, reducing the deficit to one but Bishop punched in his second goal for Alpha who then defended to the final whistle.
