Barama defeated Prospect Jammers 48-38 while Herstelling got past Grove Weavers 54-41 to become the latest team to record victories in this year’s East Bank Basketball Championships which continued at the Burnham Basketball Court Sunday last.

Playing in game one of the double header Barama lead by all-star guard Trevor Profit contributed 16 points and it was clear at half-time that Barama had the upper hand with a 31-16 lead.

After half-time Barama held onto their lead with Byron Pearson and Allister Joseph scoring a total of 13 and 10 points to close off the match 48-38. Barama have looked strong since the first game played last weekend where they defeated Agricola.

However defeated team Prospect Jammers best scorers for the day were Lance Gouviea 14 points and Mark Richards lending 10 points.

In the second game Grove Weavers gave Herstelling Magic a run for their money. Half-time saw Grove Weavers trailing closely behind Herstelling 26-18.

Herstelling’s success could be attributed to two dominant rookies who played in their first match in such a tournament. Delon Lyttle scored a whopping 21 points for his team alongside Shurwine Isaacs with 15 points.
Grove Weaver’s, Devon Blackman and Trevor Abrams made a fair contribution to their team with 20 and 11 points respectively.

Herstelling finished off Grove Weavers 54-41 to advance to the next round. Play will continue next Sunday at Burnham Court where the teams for the semi-finals will be announced.
