Cellink Plus 2009 Premier League…

Camptown gets past GDF as Flamingo erans first point

Sunburst Camptown are still in second on the leader board in the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) Cellink Plus Premier League after defeating the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) while Flamingo are stuck at the bottom even though they gained a point from a draw at the Tucville Playfield on Friday evening.
In the double header Flamingo drew 1 – 1 with the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) while Camptown got past the army team 2 – 1 in the feature match up of the evening.

GFC and Flamingo battled to a goalless first half on the soft Tucville field almost sharing equal ball possession.
Upon resumption, GFC drew first blood in the 75th minute from a Peter Park strike.

With Flamingo down by one, they fought desperately for the equalizer and it was not long before their prayers were answered through Deon Allen’s 77th minute goal.

With the goal Flamingo regained their confidence and defended the score line to the finish gaining a point in the process.

The GDF/Camptown battle was quite a test mentally and physically for both teams who had to endure 90 tough minutes on the heavy outfield which had sprinkle of rain during the half time period.

Camptown went ahead in the 47th minute from a good run straight to the 18-yard box and Lleyton Ramsey thumped it past Akel Clarke.
Six minutes later the army team equalized from a free kick just on top of the 18- yard box that was taken by Jerome Richards. The ball rocketed past the Camptown defenders and the custodian and came to a halt in the back of the net.

GDF lost captain Selwyn Issaacs who was given a red card in the 45th minute and it became easier for Camptown when GDF’s striker Stellon David was given a red card.

Camptown delivered the final blow when they received a penalty kick after GDF were blown for a foul tackle in the 18 yard box. Orlando Gilgeous’ 88th minute strike from that spot defeated Clarke to the right post.

BK International Western Tigers will oppose Fruta Conquerors this evening in the curtain raiser while Alpha United will clash with Pele FC in the feature encounter.
