Guyana goes down 5-23 to Trinidad

Guyana’s U-19 rugby team went down to Trinidad and Tobago by five points to 23 on Saturday as the NAWIRA U19 rugby tournament commenced at the South Sound Rugby Club ground in the Cayman Islands with three quarter-final matches.

In other results Jamaica defeated the Bahamas by 34 points to nine while Mexico swamped Bermuda 33-0.

According to reports, the Guyana team started tentatively and after 10 minutes trailed 0-12 after giving up two tries, one of which was converted.

In the second half T&T scored another try along with two penalties while Guyana, despite having scoring opportunities was only able to counter with one try by Soren Cox

Cayman Islands, last year’s winner had a bye to the semi-finals which will be played tomorrow.

The other semi-finalists are Jamaica, Mexico and Trinidad in the Cup Competition.

Guyana, Bahamas and Bermuda will play each other in the Bowl Competition with Guyana’s next game scheduled for Thursday against Bermuda.
