T&T U19s poised to beat Windwards

KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC – The Windward Islands gave another inept batting display and were facing defeat in their TCL Group West Indies Under-19 second-round match against Trinidad and Tobago yesterday.

The Windwards resumed on their bedtime position of 12 without loss — chasing the opposition’s challenging total of 325 — and were dismissed for 145 just before the tea interval at the Jamaica Broilers Ground.
In arrears by 180 runs, the Windwards were asked to follow-on and ended on 104 for four.
They still need a further 76 runs to avoid an innings defeat.

Dalton Polius is unbeaten on 38, while first innings century maker Yannic Cariah is T&T’s top bowler so far with two for 26.
Buoyed by their emphatic innings and 64-run-win in the opening encounter against hosts Jamaica, the T&T youngsters continued in that same vein against the Windwards with another fine all-round performance.

Doing the damage for T&T in Windwards’ first innings was pint-sized 17-year-old leg-spinner Kissoondath Magram, who bagged four for 29 off 18.1 overs to destroy the opposition’s middle and lower-order batting line-up.
The Windwards lost their last six wickets for a mere 24 runs.

Only all-rounder Kavem Hodge offered resistance with an unbeaten 52 which included six fours.
Magram received good support from left-arm orthodox spinner Javed Boodram, who picked up two for 15 from nine overs.
In arrears by 180 runs, the Windwards’ batting woes continued in their second turn at the crease as none of their batsmen could come to terms with the probing spin and pace attack employed by Yannick Ottley.
