UDFA/Stag ‘B’ League

Tony ‘Spirit’ and Monah shine

Hi Stars got off to a perfect start in the Upper Demerara Football Association (UDFA) Stag Beer-sponsored ‘B’ League Football tournament when they flogged Flamingo six goals to nil, thanks to a double each from Tony ‘Spirit’ Adams and Jason Monah.

Playing at the Bayrock ground on Wednesday, the duo wreaked havoc on the Flamingo defence and after Colin Samuels opened the score sheets in the eighth minute, Adams added his mark on the game first in the 24th minute and then on the other side of the half in the 50th minute.

Five minutes after, Monah netted the first of his two goals in the game with the other coming in the 70th minute.

Flamingo, however,  would have a chance to make amends for their abject defeat when they play Coomacka United from 14:00hrs tomorrow at the Bayrock ground with the double header being completed with a clash between Amelia’s Ward United and Peacemakers from 16:00hrs.

The Stag Beer ‘B’ League opened last Sunday at the Mackenzie Sports Club (MSC) ground and will see Coomacka United, Peacemakers, Netrockers, Amelia’s Ward United, Hi-Stars, Flamingo and Vasco participating.

Apart from the lucrative prizes which will see the first, second and third placed teams receiving $50,000, $30,000 and $20,000 respectively, the top two teams of the ‘B’ League will either be promoted  or retain first division rank.
Matches in the tournament will be contested at the MSC ground and the Bayrock ground, Wismar.

Other events on the UDFA calendar for 2009 include the Linden Invitational Tournament, which is scheduled to get underway on July 29 and the UDFA Senior League, which would follow the B League.
