East Coast Reunion Football Tournament…

Alpha and Victoria Kings blank out opponents

Alpha United and Victoria Kings have progressed to the semi finals on the East Coast Demerara Reunion Knockout Football Tournament after contrasting victories over their opponents at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) Ground on Tuesday night.

In the opening game Alpha United defeated Ann’s Grove United 2-0, while Victoria Kings overcame BK International Western Tigers 8-7 on penalties after either team was not able to score before full time.

The Western Tigers/Victoria Kings battle had both teams playing with no intent of letting up even as they both squandered many chances with each side having their moments.

The second 45 minutes did not differ much from that of the first neither did extra time and that drove the match into a dreaded penalty shoot out where a total of 20 penalties were taken.

In the first set of kicks Kwesi De Souza missed for the Victoria Kings and Kevon Gordon for Western Tigers while Kings’ Orin Elias, Aubrey Gibson, Donald Lutchman, and Andrew Holder scored.

BK’s Philip Rowley, Delon Fraser, Alvin Chase and Mark Trotman netted for the Tigers while in the second set of kicks Rolson Morrison missed for the eventual victors and Paul Giles for Tigers.

In the end it was Dwayne Daniels and Travis Procter who missed for the Tigers to give Victoria the win.

Ann’s Grove put up a good fight against the Alpha United squad. The east coast side played well in the first half but could not match skills and technique of the well composed opposition.

The Georgetown side went ahead in the 20th minute from an Abassy Mc Pherson strike that put the Georgetown champions ahead in the 20th minute then Anthony Harding made it 2-0 in the 40th minute for the Alpha.

Ann’s Grove had a few attempts to score but they were cut short because of the opposition’s stiff defence or a blunder in the play.

The tournament continues tonight with the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) meeting Santos at 6pm while Mahaica Determinators will collide with the Fruta Conquerors in the feature match.
