KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC – Guyana batsman Trevon Griffith and Jamaican spinner Patrick Harty are among 20 players named in a provisional squad to prepare for the 2010 ICC Youth World Cup.

The squad was named by West Indies selectors following the conclusion of the TCL Group West Indies Challenge tournament staged in Jamaica.

Griffith was the leading batsman in the three-day Cup tournament, scoring 406 runs at an average of 40. He stroked one century, 104 against the Leeward Islands.

He experienced a lean one-day tournament, however, scoring just 77 runs from five innings.

Harty, a left-arm spinner, claimed 30 wickets in the Cup, as he helped Jamaica to the title with 48 points, three clear of Trinidad & Tobago.

He is one of seven Jamaicans included in the squad along with Jermaine Blackwood, John Campbell, Nicholson Gordon, Kirk Harris, Andre Creary and Akeem Dewar.

Creary, who was initially called up to the West Indies makeshift squad following the strike by senior players last month, was ruled out of the tournament through injury after returning to Jamaica.

Trinidad & Tobago’s impressive batting trio of Yannick Cariah, Evin Lewis and Yannick Ottley have also been included after all getting centuries in the three-day competition.

Barbados wicketkeeper Shane Dowrich is one of two glovemen included in the squad, along with Jamaican Harris. He finished with 247 runs at an average of 41 and snared 13 dismissals in the opening phase of the tournament.

Kraigg Brathwaite, who missed Barbados’ two opening games after too being called up to the Windies squad, has been handed a spot despite just 178 runs from his three Cup matches.

The dogged right-hander, however, fashioned 183 runs in the one-day Trophy tournament at an average of 61.

Dowrich and Brathwaite are two of four Barbadians in the squad with fast bowler Jason Holder and spinner Jomel Warrican included.
