Some of the big names in motor-racing are expected to be on show today at the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMR&SC) go-kart track when the club stages a one-day go-kart races and family fun day in aid of the drivers heading to Barbados for round two of the Caribbean Race of Champions on August 30.

The day, according to president of the club Aaron Bethune, is expected to be filled with lots of thrills since the drivers will all take their rivalry from the South Dakota Circuit to the go-kart track at their clubhouse, Albert Street, Thomas Lands.

Kristian Jeffrey is known as one of the most dominant forces on the small machine and he proved this at the just-concluded National Race of Champions where he was adjudged the champion go-kart driver.

But with the likes of his father Kevin Jeffrey, Gavin Gayadin and ace driver Mark Vieira all competing, it will be interesting to see how well the young Jeffrey would handle his much more experienced foes.

Bethune stated that it would be an event that the public would not want to miss since it is rare to find these drivers shifting gears on a go-kart against each other.

The recently-elected president said, however, that the primary objective of the day is to really have mass attendance from the general public because the event is to really help the selected drivers get to Barbados.

He said that the club will be transformed into a true family atmosphere where race enthusiasts and parents could bring out their children to have fun as well since there will also be a section for them.

A nominal $200 will be charged to enter the venue and to add some flavour to the day, lucky persons could be winners from several promotions that will be run by GT&T Cellink Plus.

Guyana has not done well at the Caribbean Motor Racing series and is already behind in the points standing since it did not have a representative in round one of the series which was held in Barbados.

The four-member team which is comprised of Jeffrey (Kevin), Gayadin, Stephen Vieira and former champion Andrew King is the largest contingent in recent times to represent Guyana overseas.

King’s Tube Frame Mazda RX7, Gayadin’s BMW E36, Kevin Jeffrey’s Mitsubishi Evolution and Stephen Vieira’s 2008 Suzuki GSX600 will also be on show for public viewing.
