LONDON, England, CMC – Former West Indies batsman Phil Simmons has expressed no knowledge of and little interest in being considered to take over from sacked John Dyson as West Indies cricket coach, the BBC reported late yesterday.

Simmons and the Barbadian Ottis Gibson, both currently with coaching jobs in Britain, were named this week as the top individuals to be sought by the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) for the job.

The 46-year-old Simmons is the current coach of Ireland and hinted that he is not interested at this time although he could become attracted to the job some time in the future.

“At some point in time, we are all interested in going home,” the Trinidadian told the BBC ahead of Ireland’s game against England in Belfast today.

“But right now I’m happy where I am. There has been no contact whatsoever,” Simmons added.
The top coaching position for the regional team became vacant after Australian Dyson was sacked by WICB earlier this month.

A source close to the WICB had revealed earlier this week that the board was looking to pursue Gibson or Simmons take up the position.

Gibson is currently the bowling coach for England.
Assistant coach of the West Indies team David Williams has been asked to take over as interim coach of the team for the upcoming Champions Trophy in South Africa.
