Young Warriors crush Cathedral Shalom by innings, 239 runs

The 2009 Leslie Amsterdam Memorial Under-17 competition organised by the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) in honour of the late Berbice cricket stalwart and administrator, started recently with first round matches.

Young Warriors of Cumberland registered a huge defeat over Cathedral Shalom rattling up 262-8 declared and then dismissing the opposition for 11 and 12 runs in their two innings.

Berbice U15 cricketer Linden Austin scored 107 while Totaram Sooknanan, 62, Hurdat Singh, 30 and Jason   Bristol 24 were the principal scorers for Young Warriors.
Bowling for Cathedral Shalom, Samuel Lackhonna bagged 5 -59 and Jonathan Bhola 3-67.

In reply, Cathedral Shalom found the pace of opening bowler Jamal Parris too hot to handle and succumbed meekly in each innings.
Parris took 4-6 from 7.2 overs in the first inning and then returned to bag 7-10 from six overs when the team followed on as Young Warriors won by an innings and 239 runs.
At Bath, medium-pacer Navindra Gossai of Woodley Park Young Strikers took a match haul of 13-61 but his efforts failed to stop his team from going down to Bath by two wickets.

Batting first Woodley Park was dismissed for 69 with  Parasram Ramoo capturing 6 -20 and Brijesh Mohanlall 2-6.
Bath Aditya replied with 89 all out in their first innings With Navindra Gossai bagging 6-32 and Sudesh Deonarine 3-18.
Woodley Park in their second innings made 100 with Deonarine 35 and Gossai 28 the principal scorers.
Brijesh Mohanlall picked up 5-19.

Bath Aditya reached 81- 8 in their second innings with Brijesh Mohanlall top scoring with 31.
Gossai grabbed 7 for 29.

At Rose Hall in Canje, Rose Hall Community Centre beat Young Hustlers by an innings and 26 runs.
Rose Hall Community Centre: 216-7 declared (Shakin Sattaur, 57; Latchman Ramoutar 2-22 and Mohamed Khan 2-34.
Young Hustlers: 105 (Kabir Ramlall 39; Kevin Ramdeen 5 -25 and Udesh Imrit 4-30) and 85 (Imrit 6-33, Ramdeen 2-20).
At Port Mourant, Port Mourant beat Big Star by an innings and 192 runs.

At Shieldstown, De Edward beat Shieldstown by 74 runs.

At Paradise, Rainbow Generation took first innings points from Paradise in their drawn match.
