Race Walk champ Rudolph Mitchell to be honoured

National Race Walk champion Rudolph Mitchell will be honoured at a special appreciation ceremony in recognition of his feat of winning 100 consecutive race walk events.

Lindener Mitchell will be honoured on September 13 at the Cavaliers Sports and Tour Club (CSTC) headquarters.

The ceremony, which begins at 11am, will include cultural presentations, congratulatory speeches and presentation of gifts.

Public Service Minister Dr. Jennifer Westford, Director of Sport, Neil Kumar, Chairman of Region Four, Clement Corlette, Attorney-at-Law Raphael Trotman, president of the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) K. Juman-Yassin and president of the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) Colin Boyce are all expected to be present at the function.

Mitchell registered his 100th win last Saturday at the National Sports Commission (NSC) 10K race around Soesdyke.

After the ceremony a motorcade will take Mitchell to Linden where a similar function will be held in his honour. (Tiadi Blair)
