Simon wins DDL feature event in B/ce

Tony Simon won the feature event at the 16th annual Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL) Diamond Mineral Water, cycle road race on Sunday.

The race was organized by Flying Ace Cycle Club’s coach Randolph Roberts one of the country’s top cycling coaches.

Simon completed the event which started outside of the Skeldon Police Station and ended at main and Chapel Streets, New Amsterdam in a time of one hour, 57 minutes and 27 seconds.

Junior Niles was second and Robin Persaud, third.

Raymond Newton, Leer Nunes, Eon Jackson, Jude Bentley and Daniel Ramcharitar round out the other top places.

Neil Reece was the first juvenile cyclist to complete the distance.

Prizes were also awarded to the first five Berbicians in Gary Benjamin, Reece, Torne Harris, Nashene Jaundoo and Rohan Persaud.

Linden Rigby received a special prize for completing the event from club captain Reece.

Meanwhile in the female category which started at Rose Hall, Merisa Dick triumphed ahead of Naomi Singh while Niles, Newton and Jackson were the first three veteran finishers.

Raymond Perez, Ravindra Karim and Akim Rudder were the top three finishers in the BMX category.

Meanwhile, the club stated in a press release that it would like to thank the acting Traffic Chief in Berbice Calvin Brutus and his team for doing a very good job.
