‘Hurry-Up’ Moore to fight WBO title eliminator in November

Guyana’s Leon ‘Hurry-Up’ Moore seems to be getting busier than anticipated in his climb to become a world champion.

Already down to fight Mauricio Pastrana for the vacant North American Boxing Association (NABA) Bantamweight title on September 26 at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, Moore has now received an offer to fight in a World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Super Bantamweight title eliminator against the Asian Pacific Champion, Sod Looknongyangtoy.

The fight according to his manager Carwyn Holland is set for November 5 in Singapore and they are already in receipt of the contract for the bout.

Moore, ranked No.7 by the World Boxing Council (WBC), is the Caribbean’s highest rated fighter but he is not ranked by the WBO after coming off their radar in 2007.

“Well I must say we are excited. Moore is very excited so we are seriously considering taking the fight but we heard that Singapore is a high altitude area so we would push to have it here in Guyana because I think it should bring some trouble for us if he goes there,” Holland said. However, he noted that at present it’s just a thought and a proposal which they would put to the handlers of Looknongyangtoy, but if not they would then have to seek some advise from some of the more learned persons in the sport about how they should approach the fight.

“As you know right now we have the fight coming up on the 26 and it’s hard as it is because we are kind of cash strapped, so I think if we pull this one off I would make the presentation and see how corporate Guyana would react to it, but I think it’s something we would love to happen,” Holland said.

At age 32, Looknongy angtoy is ranked No. 5 by the WBO and holds a record of 45 fights with 42 wins (18KO) along with two losses and a draw which he suffered by Jack Asis while defending his Asian Pacific title and going for the vacant PABA Super Bantamweight title Friday last.

The winner of the Moore/ Looknongyangtoy clash will go on to fight Juan Manuel Lopez for his WBO Super Bantamweight title.
