West Indies rugby coach Joe Whipple will today meet national coach, Laurie Adonis and assistant coaches, Theodore Henry and Clinton Clarke and the men’s and women’s players called to national trials to introduce a comprehensive fitness training and skills programme.

Also participating in the programme which ends tomorrow will be Scott Harland, Regional Develop-ment Officer of the North America and Caribbean Rugby Association (NACRA).

Harland  arrived in Guyana yesterday for a one-week official visit  accompanied by his wife Charlene Bakke who is a qualified Women’s Rugby Coach

According to a release from the Guyana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) Harland will review the progress of the union’s Youth Development Programme.

He will visit the Schools’ Programme conducted by the Union’s Youth Development Officers, observe and assist with the Union’s Coaching Programme and meet with the West Indies Rugby Council President, Kit Nascimento, the release stated.

Whipple, the release added, has been appointed to serve as Technical Director of the National Sevens Men’s team which is preparing for the NACRA Men’s and Women’s Sevens Championships in Mexico on November 14 and 15.

Meanwhile, former national women’s coach, Alton Agard, has returned to take up his former coaching responsibilities specifically for the preparation of the Women’s National Sevens team for the upcoming Mexico Sevens Championships. Agard will also participate in this week-ends programme.

Additionally, the GRFU two United Kingdom BOOST Coaches, Chris Campbell and Adam Rae, on assignment from Loughborough College, are currently in Guyana working in support of the Youth Development Officers on the Schools’ Programme. The BOOST Coaches will also participate in the Programme for the preparation of the National Sevens Squad to be introduced by Whipple said the release.
