Eight race card set for Rising Sun next Sunday

The Rising Sun Turf Club in collaboration with the True Friends Committee Charity Organisation of Guyana has organised an eight-race meet next Sunday  at the Rising Sun Turf Club, West Coast Berbice.

The `B’ class event will carry the day’s biggest purse of $300,000 and the horses will cover a distance of 1600 metres while the three-year-old horses that are born and bred in Guyana and the West Indies will gallop 1400 metres for $250,000.

In the two-year-old event, over a distance of 1300m, there is $200,000 available for the winner while the `F’ Class event will see the horses sprinting over 1100m and the `G’ class event is over 1400m. The other races listed for the day’s programme are the `H’ and lower classes, the `J’ and `K’ and the `L’  classes classic.

There are also incentives on offer for the champion jockey and champion trainer compliments of businessman Ramesh Sunich of the Trophy Stall in Bourda Market.

Meanwhile, the Guyana Horse Racing Authority (GHRA) is calling on persons to stay off the track especially during the course of a race. The GHRA has also sounded a warning to those persons who are bent on flouting the law to desist from such practices or be dealt with accordingly which could include eviction or prosecution.

“The GHRA can only improve the quality of racing in the country if it gets the cooperation of all involved including the government, ” said the GHRA in a press release.
