- Tucker optimistic of successful GABBFF Seniors

President of the Guyana Amateur Bodybuild-ing and Fitness Federation (GABBFF) Frank Tucker believes that even though reigning `Mr. Guyana’ Mark ‘Uno’ Perry would not be competing, tonight’s senior championship at the Nation Cultural Centre will still be a success.

Perry, undoubtedly Guyana’s largest bodybuilder, is an eye catcher and a show-stopper but the Linden resident said he was not prepared for the show.

Tucker, told this newspaper yesterday said that while it was indeed sad that Perry would defend his title, the show will go on.

“You know people would have loved to see him (Perry) again and it is indeed sad that he can’t defend his title but hey, the senior championship was here and was exciting before Perry and will be so without him or after.

“We have guys like Clint Duke from Linden who is one of our top guys in the sport and all the guys are in good nick for tonight. So I think that tonight would be a success because I can say that all the competitors are in their best shape and people could expect a good show,” said Tucker.

Also missing this year is four-time Caribbean and Central American (CAC) championship gold medalist Sylvan Gardner who is now campaigning with the pros since picking up his professional (Pro) card last year.

“I’m glad that Sylvan has moved on, but like I said, we have a great show planned for tonight and people will see a great show too. So like I said, regardless of who is there, these guys coming out tonight will surprise a lot of people.”

Meanwhile, Canadian based Guyanese bodybuilder Eustace ‘Robocop’ Abraham, arrived yesterday and will be a guest poser tonight and, according to Tucker, the bulky bodybuilder promises a great show.

“Well Robocop as you know is based in Canada and he has over the years always being something good to us and this time around he says he has something special for us, so I don’t want to steal his limelight. So people would need to be there tonight to see him,” Tucker said.

Tonight’s championship will serve as a selection criterion for bodybuilders looking to represent the GABBFF at this year’s CAC games set for October 1-4 in Grenada.

“This is why tonight’s show is going to be great because we are looking to send at least five athletes to the CAC Championship. However, it all depends on how much funds we have, but this is what we would like to see happen,” the GABBF boss said.
