Sensei Troy Bobb is currently preparing his group of young karatekas for what will be Guyana’s fifth year of participation at the Pan Caribbean Martial Arts Championships to be hosted in Trinidad and Tobago.

Ten youths who train at the  Harpy Eagle Martial Arts Academy with the martial arts teacher at its Apex Education branch will leave  these shores on October 8 for the two-day competition on the 9th and 10th of the month.

Sensei  Bobb says he expects his small squad to do well.
In 2008 the team returned with a total of six medals, and  Bobb expects that the team heading to Trinidad next month will do the same, if not better.

“Yes, I do expect all the members of the team to do well at the Pan Caribbean Martial Arts Championships. I work closely with the karatekas and I know the strengths of each of them.”
All travel expenses for the participants have not yet been covered, so the club has to host a number of fundraising events before going to compete.

The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport and Apex Education are already on board to finance the team’s expenses.

So far ten persons have been selected for the martial arts championships. They include Kavira Scott, Tamera Austin, Terry Joseph, Kemo Scott, Nicola McDonald, Ron DeFreitas, Gerald Beaton, Sheila Cummings, Aliza Bobb and Christopher Norville.

Depending on how well the participants do at the championships next month, they will be eligible to travel to Florida for the upcoming World Karate Championships from November 6th – 8th.
