The Alpha United team is now certain of their fourth Cellink Plus Premier League Championship title after winning their penultimate game and moving to an unsurpassable 34 points ahead of second place holders Sunburst Camptown who are on 29 points with one match remaining for both teams.

Alpha ‘The Hammer’ United got past Flamingo 2 – 1 in the curtain raiser of the evening while Camptown and the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) played to a nil-all draw in the feature showdown at the Tucville Playfield.

The three-time defending champions opened the match with their usual attacking stint and were rewarded with the lead in the 13th minute from a Qunicy Madramootoo strike.

Not long after Flamingo got an opportunity to equalize which they did successfully  to bring the game back in the balance in the 30th minute as  Dellon Allen found the back of the net.

The second half saw Alpha’s Dwayne Jacobs scoring in the 64th minute as Alpha regained the lead  which they defended  resolutely for the remainder of the show down.

On Wednesday night, Pele defeated Flamingo 2 – 0 and Fruta Conquerors dealt BK International Western Tigers a trouncing by the same margin.

Travis Grant scored for Pele one minute before the half time whistle (44th) while Marvin Joseph doubled the lead in the 88th minute to take his team comfortably over the line for victory.

In the FC/Tigers battle, the Tigers found themselves down as early as the sixth minute when Devon Forde got one past the custodian.

Manasseh Primo, who has been finding some form in these final matches shot one past the Western Tigers custodian in the 79th minute while Conquerors kept denying the opposition’s chances of scoring.
