Khan to fight Salita in Newcastle in December

LONDON, (Reuters) – WBA light-welterweight champion  Amir Khan will make the first defence of his title against  unbeaten Dmitriy Salita in Newcastle on Dec. 5, his promoter  Frank Warren said yesterday.

Ukraine-born Salita, who moved to Brooklyn, New York when he  was nine, is the mandatory challenger for Britain’s former  Olympic silver medallist who won the belt by beating Andreas  Kotelnik in July.

“For Amir’s first defence this is a very tough fight for him  and he’s taking on a fighter that the American media are really  building up at the moment,” Warren said.
