Former national point guard Lugard Mohan and Aubrey Younge have expressed their readiness to participate in the second leg of the 2009 Inter Guiana Games (IGG).

The tournament will be the Mohan and Younge’s first outing as certified FIBA referees.
The duo acquired their badges after being successful at their Federation of International Basketball Association (FIBA) Officials Certification Course, which was held in Denver, Colorado, USA from June 19-22 this year.

“Honestly, I’m very excited and I’m really looking forward to go out there. I think the first game may bring some butterflies you know, but it’s basketball, nothing different so I’ll just apply my self properly and do what I have to do,” said Younge

Former national captain Mohan will be stepping onto the court in the Dutch speaking country in stripes and not decked in his once customary basketball outfit.

Mohan was regarded as one the Caribbean’s best point guards.
The former Caricom All Star guard, holds the record for being the only Guyanese player to score over 100 points at the Caricom championships.

He  is also one of only three Guyanese basketballers  (Ulric Tappin and Leon Christian being the other two) to be selected more than once on the All-Star team.

His last outing at the Caribbean basketball Con-federation (CBC) championship, then called the CARICOM championships was 2000 in Barbados  when he piloted Guyana to third place under Coach Bernard Daniels.

“Well I’m confident. It’s my first time going there  as a FIBA referee and I think knowing that you are holding a FIBA license gives you some amount of confidence so I’m ready to go there and do my best,” said Mohan.

According to the rules of the IGG basketball competition, only certified FIBA referees will be used during the matches. Guyana only has three FIBA certified referee with Sherwin Henry of Linden being the other.
