The National Closed Chess Championships will get underway today at the Ocean Spray International Hotel at 10am.

The event will be declared open by Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Dr. Frank Anthony.

The tournament is a double round robin one with a time control of one hour and thirty minutes per player.

The seniors will play two rounds per day with the first game being at 10:30 hours and the second at 15:00 hours on Saturdays and Sundays.

The juniors will also play two rounds per day with one game at 10:00 hours and the second at 14:00 hours. 

The senior games will be played at Ocean Spray Hotel, while the juniors will play at Olympic House on Avenue of the Republic.

The junior category is sponsored exclusively by the Ramgopal family.

Kriskal Persaud if the defending senior champion while a new champion will be crowned in the junior division.
