Tournament leaders Alpha United continued their dominant run in the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) when they defeated Victoria Kings 2-0 Sunday last at the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) ground Bourda while the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) and Milerock were able to pick up victories as well. Going into the game in seventh position the East Coast team was in a must-win situation and the defeat has left their chances of reaching the final four hanging by  a thread.

The Kings have two more matches to play and will need nothing but wins from those matches.
Also going down hard in their must-win game was Bakewell Topp XX who were defeated by Buxton United 0-1 at the Mackenzie Sports Club ground in Linden.

A win for Topp XX would have placed them in contention to make the last four but bottom of the table Buxton United dashed their hopes.

Both teams came out playing hard but it was Topp XX who were hungrier for the win as evidenced by their physical type of play.
One of Topp XX’s main defensive players, Michael Crandon, was given marching orders in the 74th minute after picking up his second yellow card.

This certainly created chances for the visiting team since Topp XX was forced to play a more defensive game after Buxton pressed forward.

The spell was broken in the 90th minute when Buxton United was given a penalty after Topp XX’s goalkeeper, in attempting to take the ball off the feet of an attacking Buxtonian player, grabbed the player’s leg and referee Mark Young awarded the visitors with a shot from the charity spot.

Rudian Thomas was the player who was sent to take the kick and he calmly stroked the ball into the back of net giving his side their second win in seven matches.

For the losers, who tried feverishly to pull back a goal and pick up the much-needed point, they will have to win at least two of their remaining three matches.

Meanwhile, another Linden Team, Milerock United was able to secure a moral boosting 1-0 win over Seawall United to jump in the top four.

The home side came out guns blazing and Ray Bobb-Semple showed his team’s hunger by scoring the eventual winner in the first minute (45 Seconds).

Seawall had several clear chances, but failed to convert.

The defeat, which is only their second in seven games, places them in fifth position with three matches remaining.
The resurgent GDF team helped Rosignol continue its downward spiral in the League with a 1-0 defeat of the Berbicians.

The GDF, on 13 points, is now in the number two spot behind Alpha United.

Sunburst Camptown added one point to their tally after playing to a 4-4 draw against Liquid Gold of Bartica.
