DCC congratulates Dowlin on WI team selection

Dowlin, overlooked by the West Indies selectors for many years got a chance to play for the West Indies senior team following the withdrawal by a number of the team’s regular players and scored his maiden one-day century against Bangladesh.

He also narrowly missed out on scoring his first test century when he was dismissed for 95. On Monday following intense speculation Dowlin’s name was among the 15 players pencilled in for the tour Down Under.

Following is the text of the club’s message to Dowlin:”It is with great pride and a sense of fulfillment that we at DCC celebrate Travis Dowlin, one of our ambassadors, on his selection to the West Indies team. His selection is a validation of his performance in the recent months and we wish him well in the upcoming tour of Australia. Travis’ manifestation on and off the field is a reflection of the quality of programmes being offered by the DCC and this in some way, is a moment for us also.

Travis joins a long list of great cricketers that came from the shores of the Demerara Cricket Club in Clive Lloyd, Lance Gibbs, Roy Fredericks, and Roger Harper and now joins three of his other countrymen on the team, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Ramnaresh Sarwan and Narsingh Deonarine. With history as our guide, whenever there is this many Guyanese on the WI team, the team supercedes expectation. Therefore, we can safely predict that Travis will attain his first test century that eluded him in his debut series against Bangladesh.

Another satisfactory development that should not go unmentioned is the recent settlement of the impasse between WICB and WIPA. In previous releases we had called for a resolution of the conflict and although it is long overdue we hope that this could spur the resurgence and development of WI cricket.

Again, the President and members of DCC wish all of our boys well on their tour of Australia.”
