Rain force draws in Berbice Zone GCB competition

Heavy rainfall in Berbice last Saturday affected play in the first round of the 2009 Berbice Zone of the Guyana Cricket Board first division competition with all three matches ending in draws. At Edinburgh, Edinburgh were unable to resume at their overnight 160 for 5 needing a further 77 runs to avoid an innings defeat against Bermine.

Scores in the match Bermine 406 for 9 declared. Edinburgh 169 and 160 for 5.

At Rose Hall Ground, Canje, Young Warriors were left high and dry, unable to start their second innings where they needed just 110 runs for an outright win over Rose Hall Community Centre.

Scores – Rose Hall Community Centre 191 and 259. Young Warriors 341 for 7 declared.

At Blairmont, Saturday’s play was rained out but on Sunday Police managed to take first innings points from Blairmont Community Centre in that match which also ended in a draw.

Blairmont Community Centre resuming at their over week first innings at 103 without loss, in response to Police’s 221, lost both openers Romesh Budhram,who resumed at 70 n.o and Berbice opening batsman Karamdat Bissoondial 29 n.o early and were bowled out for 160.

Budhram made 87 and Bissoondial 36.

Bowling for Police off spinner Rocky Hutson took 3 for 31. Police batted again, were bundled out for 120 with Albert Sinclair 37, Jerry Heyliger 32 and Kenroy Henry 23. Bowling for Blairmont Community Centre leg spinner Leslie Amsterdam Jr., took 3 for 15, off spinner Romesh Budhram 3 for 22 and off spinner Karamdat Bissoondial 3 for 29.

Blairmont Community Centre set 182 to win reached 102-2  in 20 overs at the end of the day’s play with Budhram 70 (his second half century of the match) and Nedesh Basdeo 24n.o.

Second round action begins on Saturday with matches in both Zone A (West Berbice/New Amsterdam/East Bank/Canje) and Zone B (Corentyne).
