Rest XI in sight of first innings points after Day Two

The Derwin Christian-led Rest XI team was on the verge of securing first innings points against Demerara after the second day’s play of the Guyana Cricket Board’s Inter-County four day encounter at the Police Sports Club ground, Eve Leary.

They need two more wickets to dismiss Demerara who closed on 312-8 in reply to the Rest XI’s first innings score of 444 all out.

Zaheer Mohammed and Joseph Perry are the not out batsmen on 22 and 18 runs respectively. The Demerara innings was undermined by Steven Latcha who grabbed 5-91.

Demerara were pushed on the back foot early on when they lost Shemroy Barrington, stumped by Christian off the bowling of Seon Daniels, with the score on five.

However, a half century from opener Krishna Deosarran and a belligerent 45 from Rajendra Chandrika helped Demerara reach 102 before the next wicket fell.

Deosarran’s innings of 61 was laced with 10 fours and one six while Chandrika slammed four sixes before they both fell to Latcha.

Deosarran, Chandrika and Leon Johnson, who was removed without scoring, were dismissed in the space of 14 runs.

However Steven Jacobs slammed five fours and two sixes in making 43 before he was bowled after he misjudged the line of a ball from Sauid Drepaul.

At tea, Gajanand Singh and Christopher Barnwell were unbeaten on 22 and 28 respectively as Demerara limped to the interval on 210-5.

After the break Singh narrowly missed out on a half century (49) when he was stumped by Christian off Drepaul.
Barnwell, who was hit by Daniels on the inner left knee before tea, carried on and reached 45, before he nicked a delivery from Latcha and was caught behind by Christian.

Troy Gonsalves was Latcha’s final victim of the day before the light option was given to the Demerara team at the conclusion of the 78th over and they accepted.

Earlier, the Rest XI resumed on their overnight score of 364-5 and passed the 400-run mark, compliments of Dion Ferrier and Royan Fredericks  who were dismissed for 71 and 41 runs respectively.
Drepaul (4), Fraser and Latcha (2) were removed cheaply as Jacobs finished with 5 – 109 from 25 overs.
He was supported by Leon Scott (2-78) and Mohammed (2-100).
