BRISBANE, Australia,  CMC – For the first time since arriving here two days ago, West Indies will head for the nets today (Saturday, Eastern Caribbean time) as they launch their final preparations for the imminent three-Test series against Australia.

Coach David Williams is expected to take the 15-man squad through a full training session at the Allan Border field in the build up to the only warm-up match on tour, a four-day clash with Queensland starting Wednesday. A weary West Indies arrived here Friday after flying nearly 30 hours from the Caribbean, and are on a mission to win their first series against the hosts in 15 years.

Williams and his coaching staff are expected to take the Windies through a thorough workout especially since several members of the squad have had precious little cricket of recent.

Owing to the players strike, many of the side’s first choice players have not played competitive cricket and would have last tasted serious cricket in the One-day series against India in early July.

However, Shiv Chanderpaul played English County cricket for Durham during the summer while all-rounder Dwayne Bravo and fast bowler Ravi Rampaul contested the Twenty20 Champions League in India with Trinidad & Tobago last month.

The WICB President’s Cup One-day tournament, which would have served as a warm-up for the Australia tour, was ravaged by rain leaving players without crucial match practice.

West Indies face Australia in the first Test on November 26 at the Gabba here.
