Patrick John, president of the Dominica Football Association, has announced that funding for the project will be provided under the FIFA Goal 2 Project organised by the sport’s World governing body.
“All documents have been approved by FIFA,” said John. “We have the contract ready for signing.
“The architect will be responsible for overseeing the entire project. He will be the one determining how the money is to be spent, and how the money will be spent.
He added: “The DFA will have no direct link during the construction phase of the project since FIFA will deal directly with the contractor.
“FIFA will transfer all funds directly to the contractor on the recommendation of [the architect], and not to the DFA. Once the project is completed, the DFA will assume control and ownership of it.”
The new facility will accommodate a standard-sized playing field. It will include dormitories and will seat approximately 2,000 spectators.
FIFA will contribute close to US $500,000 towards the actual construction, and the Government of Dominica contributed land costing close to US $170,00, as well as steel frames.
The DFA anticipates that the entire project will be completed in 12 months.
Work on the facility, which will be located in Stock Farm, just five minutes drive from the capital city, Roseau, will begin shortly.
Under the FIFA funded Goal One project, the DFA constructed an administrative building.
