Kanhai leads Jets past Ballers

Akeem `The Dream’ Kanhai proved a nightmare for the Amelia’s Ward New Ballers last Thursday as the Linden Amateur Basketball Association (LABA) second-division tournament bounced off at the Mackenzie Sports Club hardcourt.

The 18-year-old national junior captain poured in a game-high 30 points as the Amelia’s Ward Jets thrashed Ballers 89-38.

Kanhai turned on the pressure in the second half after the Ballers trailed 23-38 at the end of the first half.

Shane Webster scored 21 points, point guard Rodwell Pellew netted 18 and former junior national forward Javon Nelson scored 12 for the victorious Amelia’s Ward Jets.

Only Donnell Benjamin was able to show any resistance to the Jets’ blaze scoring 12 points.
