Diamond Mineral Water Indoor Hockey Festival…Hat-tricks galore on day two

Action in the Guyana Hockey Board (GHB) Diamond Mineral Water Indoor Hockey Festival continued yesterday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall with 15 exciting matches that showcased a few nail biting and some blow-outs.

The day got moving with the GCC men’s team pulling off a close 4-3 victory against the YMCA before Old Fort Veterans crushed rivals Hikers Veterans 9 – 4.

Dexter Wyles led the way with a hat-trick while Audwin Graham and Robert Hussain both scored doubles.

Wyles scored in the third, 14th and 21st minutes while Graham struck in the 30th and 33rd, Hussain’s two goals came within a minute of each other.

Dwayne Alleyne and Ivor Thompson were the other goal scorers.

Rene Edwards (36th and 38th) scored a double for Hikers whilst Timothy Jonas and David Gomes supported with one goal each.

Malvern’s men’s team won 6 – 5 against Old Fort with Wayne Legerton, recording a hat-trick.

Legerton’s goals came in the 14th, 21st and 28th minutes while Colin Byron, Darryl Hume and Joshua Defour scored one goal each.

Aderemi Simon scored a hat trick for Old Fort but it proved futile even with the other two goals scored by Jonathan Roberts and Bandon Kowlessar.

One of the other tough match-ups was the GCC/Hikers men’s encounter where Orland Semple too recorded a hat-trick to lead his team to a 5-4 victory.

Semple’s goals came in the 32nd, 35th and 37th minutes while Dwayne Scott and Shad Fernandes supported with on goal each.

Orin Clarke, Robert Fernandes, Devin Munroe and Robert France accounted for the four Hikers goals but the Hikers came up short when it mattered.

In other results Malvern women’s team defeated Hikers and GCC women’s teams by  2 – 0 and 3 – 2 scores respectively; Fatima Veterans gained a 2 – 1 victory over Malvern; YMCA bounced back to defeat Western Dragons 7 – 4 and  GCC Veterans drew 3 – 3 with Fatima.

The matches left to be contested in the veterans division last evening were Malvern versus Hikers and Old Fort versus Fatima.

The final women’s match on the card was GCC versus Hikers.

In the men’s division, Malvern was set to clash with Western Dragons and YMCA while Old Fort and Hikers were scheduled to match skills.

Today the action continues from 9am with GCC going head-to-head with Malvern in the veterans’, women’s and men’ divisions while Fatima is down to oppose Hikers in another veterans encounter.

Old Fort and Hikers will take on Western Dragons and Malvern in the final two men’s matches.
